Region 9 is one of OA’s 10 Regions. It is composed of countries and territories in Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Western Asia.

The area of Region 9 is over 70,400,000 sq Km and in that area there are over 100 different countries and 756 OA groups. But these groups are not distributed evenly through the region – there are still OA groups in less than half the countries of Region 9

There are OA meetings in 43 different countries.

In 11 of these countries there is only one group,

In 14 countries there are 2 to 4 groups,

In 10 countries there are 5 to 20 groups,

In   5 countries there 21 to 100 groups

In   3 countries there are over 100 groups.

At least one loner in the following countries

The huge size and the varieties of language and currencies make tough demands on the Region. But also give us many advantages.

Every year the region has an assembly & convention. .  Each year it is held in a different country.  In the assembly we conduct the business of the region: in the convention we share our recovery.  But even more than this we build contacts and learn from one another.

For growth in recovery literature in one’s own language is essential. Translating and making literature available is very consuming of time and money. Yet there are many members who give hours of service to make translated literature available.

It is not just literature that has to be translated but also all the information from WSO and the region is sent out in English so has to be translated. As well as that delegates to WSBC and to region need to be good English speakers.  Region 9 is very fortunate in the members who have the skills and are willing to serve.

                Region nine’s Statement of Purpose

Our primary purpose is to carry the OA message to the still suffering compulsive overeater, wherver they may live and whatever language they may speak. In fulfilling our purpose we should ever strive to achieveworldwide unity and common policies among all countries. With love and tolerance as our code. Together we can do what we could never do alone.

The mission of Region 9 is to make OA known throughout the Region so that anyone with the desire to stop eating compulsively may find an OA group, and provide support so that any OA member can have recovery from compulsive eating through the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of Overeaters Anonymous. The purpose of this website is to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas, to be aware of and serve the needs of member Groups and to carry the message of Overeaters Anonymous to the compulsive overeater who still suffers.

Our primary purpose is to abstain from compulsive overeating and to carry this message of recovery to those who still suffer.
